For Participating WULax Families: Volunteer opportunities for the 2014 Black & Blue Tournament are now available in DIBS - our integrated volunteer management system.

You can find DIBS at the following link:  http://www.woodburyunitedlax.com/dib_sessions

With 500 volunteer hours available in a variety of assignments, there is an opportunity for everyone!

Our greatest need every year is for Score/Time Table workers.  Please do not be shy about signing up to handle score/timekeeping responsibilities.  We have cheat sheets at every field to assist you!

All families of participating Woodbury United teams are expected to volunteer in support of the Black & Blue.  If you cannot fulfill your minimum number of volunteer hours, send an email to woodburyunitedlax@gmail.com and indicate that you want to opt out with payment of $100.  Minimum volunteer hour requirements are structured in the following manner.  There is a minimum of 3 hours per family with the addition of 1 hour for every additional lacrosse player.  For example, you have a daughter and two sons playing in the summer league.  Your volunteer requirement totals 5 hours (3+1+1).

Volunteer check-in is located at the Green Pavilion.  All volunteers are expected to check in at the beginning of your shift in order to receive credit.

General Descriptions of Key Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Score/Time Table:  These volunteers staff the score/time tables at each fields to keep running time, penalties, and the score for the games.  Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to start of game.  Please be prompt for shift time; games need to remain on schedule.  All score/timekeepers are expected to stay until the completion of the game(s).  Scorekeepers ensure that score sheets are: 1) signed; 2) clearly marked with the field #, bracket, and teams; and, 3) delivered to Tournament HQ upon completion of the game.  In the event of a weather delay, volunteers stay with their assigned game and start times may move accordingly.
  • Culver’s:  Takes $ and assists with sales of beverages, chips, and custard.  (Non-cooking position.)
  • Culver's Roving Golf Cart Sales:  Drives golf cart to Green and Gold fields for remote beverage and snack sales.  (No volunteers under 16 years of age.)  Check in/out at the Green Pavilion.
  • Remote Concessions:  Sells cold beverages, snacks, and candy at a remote location (the Stadium).  Takes money, keeps inventory stocked, etc.
  • Sanitation Engineer:  Empties trash from cans around tournament site and takes trash bags to dumpster.  Picks up trash around complex.  Monitors restrooms for supplies and generally troubleshoots.
  • Field Marshall:  Checks in frequently at fields to ensure games are starting on time and running smoothly.  Calls for on-field medical assistance or Tournament Director to fields as needed.  Ensures that score/time table volunteers have supplies.  Wears "tournament staff" shirt, directs teams to appropriate locations, and picks up trash around complex.  Volunteer must be knowledgeable about Tournament operations, friendly, approachable, and willing to troubleshoot.  Answers questions from visiting teams/parents as needed.  All field marshall volunteers check in at Tournament HQ before and after each shift in order to obtain and return a walkie talkie.
  • Volunteer & Ref Check-in:  Assists with checking in volunteers and referees.
  • Set up/Tear Down:  Assists with pre- and post-tournament readiness.  Prepares fields with cones and time/scorekeeping supplies.  Sets up or takes down signs & tents around complex.  Sets up remote concession site.  Other tasks as needed.

Thank you for your active participation!  It's the volunteers that make the Black & Blue Tournament the top tournament in the region.
