As a response to the parent survey that was sent out in August, Woodbury United has put together two top-notch fall programs for your sons. One of the overwhilming responses has been that players need more small group coaching and real instruction.

To make this happen, we need participants - without your participation both programs are in jeopardy. Please help us ensure that these opportunities are not missed.

FALL HOMEGROWN TEAM

We would like to enter teams in the Homegrown Fall Lakes league at the U15 and U13 levels. The teams will be coached by Woodbury and East Ridge HS coaches Brady O'Rourke and Drew McWatters. Pat Donaghy will also help. Registration is $135 for 6 games and 5 practices. This is a great opportunity for the non-fall sport athlete to get a taste of competition.

  • Season Start Date: Sunday, September 7, 2014
  • Season End Date: Sunday, October 12, 2014
  • Great Pumpkin Shootout Tournament: October 25 - 26, 2014
Teams compete in one 48-minute running time game per week at regional HGL host sites.

Games run between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Each team plays a total of six regular season games and has the option to compete in additional post-season tournament which offers a 5 game guarantee.

All regular season games will be played on Sundays to avoid conflicting MSHSL fall sport schedules.

FALL CLINICS

There are Fall clinics available in the new Bielenberg dome. 12 sessions for $130.

The sessions will be run by Pat Donaghy. Pat has 15 years of HS and Division 3 college coaching experience and is also a coach at Team Minnesota. Alain Rodgrigue will also be a coordinator and has 18 years of HS coaching experience including a state championship. There will also be several HS coaches and players working the clinics. There will be over 100 years of playing and coaching experience at these sessions from top coaches in the state and several Division 1 commits.

To have 18 hours of clinics from such great coaches at the price is an opportunity you don't want to miss. When compared to many other sessions, these are about 1/3 of the cost of other sessions around the state.

These sessions are also designed for the fall sports athlete in mind. They are really designed to teach the intricate parts of the game and work on muscle memory, off-hand work, and will make your sons more knowledgeable about the game. These are drills and techniques that may not have enough time for kids to learn in-season. There will be a large emphasis on shooting as well.

Planned dates are Sundays 9/7 - 10/26 (8), plus Tuesdays 9/2 & 9/9, Thursdays 9/18, 9/25. Times 7-8:30pm. The full schedule is shown on the registration link.

The target is to have a 5:1 ratio of coaches to players, which is a very rare opportunity for your sons.

From Coach Donaghy,

My advice is this - for the non-fall athlete, sign up for the Homegrown team and the fall clinics. For the fall sports athlete that wants to have the stick in the hand once a week or so, these fall clinics are perfect. if there are kids that are new to lacrosse, sign up, we'll get you the equipment one way or another.

In my 6 years coaching HS and Youth Lacrosse in Minnesota, I have never seen an offseason learning program better than this, especially indoors with such great local coaching.

Pat Donaghy
